Bobby, Kolby, and Riley were all showing PRIDE habits today and they each got PRIDE tickets! Ask your student which PRIDE habit we talked about today ("E").
Make sure your child is showing PRIDE!
In math, we did name collection boxes.
We had our first Warm Wednesday note exchange and our first gym class.
Check in later!

A note from Mrs. Slessinger:
Students really enjoyed getting a nice note or compliment written to them by a peer today during our first Warm Wednesday exchange. This also serves as a nice reminder to do something nice for someone, or say something nice, every day.
Students did a good job with name collection boxes in math. Ask them to tell you what these are.
We have an assembly tomorrow from a published author who works in the district. he will be "kicking off" our school's reading challenge for the month of September. More information will be coming home about this soon.
Take care,
~Mrs. Slessinger

Monday News
Written by: Tori and Charlene
Today Lizzie was showing PRIDE by being quiet. Grace was showing PRIDE by listening.
Ask your kids about our new computers we used on the 5th day of school!
We had Art for the first time today with Ms. F. Also for the first time, we had full reading stations.
In math, we used school tools like clocks, rulers, calculators, and pattern block templates.
We also got a new Friday Journal prompt.
Make sure your kids are showing PRIDE! Check in next time,
Charlene and Tori
A note from Mrs. S:
Please make sure that your child is reading and filling out his or her reading log every night. The requirement is simply 10 minutes a night.
As you can see above, our students are going to be writing the blog. This will be happening every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each week a pair of students will work on the blog together. Every student will get multiple chances to be a blog writer.
If you need clarification on anything, or have questions, please let me know.
Have a wonderful day!

First Day News
Hello Families!
Our first day went wonderfully today. There were some jitters at the beginning, but we had a great day overall. The students enjoyed getting to explore a new classroom, catch up with old friends, and make new ones.
Ask your child about:
1. The "talk show"
2. Their new independent book
3. Something they discovered in their new classroom
Reminders: We start our specials tomorrow. Tomorrow we have book exchange. Also, please do not send valuables to school with your child if at all possible. They are not the school's responsibility if lost or damaged!
A LOT of paperwork came home today. The items that need to be returned to school are as follows:
1. Discipline/consequences form
2. Student Handbook sign-off sheet
3. Assignment sheet (stays in folder all week)
4. Reading Log (stays in folder all week--due, signed, Fridays)
Student info sheets will be coming home tomorrow and will need to be returned to school as well.
Thanks for all you do! As always, contact me with questions or concerns.

Back to School Night
Welcome families! This blog will serve as a communication link for our classroom. I will be updating it with pictures of things we are doing in class, important information, upcoming dates, etc.
As I have recently gotten married, my email address will probably be changing shortly. I will send an update out when that happens, but in the meantime, my school email is hymank@rlasd.net.
As a reminder, Back to School/Meet the Teacher Night is Monday, August 18th from 6-8pm. There will be three sessions lasting 20 minutes each during that time to allow for parents with multiple children to make it to all their children's sessions.
Please ensure that you and/or your child are filling out all necessary paperwork and returning it to school as soon as possible. There is a lot that comes home in the beginning of the year that can be lost in the shuffle!
